- Thread Tech is a Winner with Brother's Winning Combination of Embroidery and Inkjet Garment Printing
Thread Tech, located in touristy Pittsfield, MA, has been a thriving garment decorating business, largely due to the tenacity and forward thinking of founder and owner, Lisa Kearley. Many business owners choose to play it safe, both in terms of purchasing innovative new equipment and seeking new niche markets - only to discover they've been left behind by their competitors. Not true with Thread Tech. About a year ago, Lisa embraced Brother's Winning Combination of embroidery and inkjet garment printing, giving her a competitive edge.

Since Thread Tech opened its doors eight years ago, Lisa Kearley has strived to offer her customers great products at great prices - with fast turnaround times. So when Lisa saw the GT-541 direct-to-garment inkjet printer, she knew it would give her a definite competitive edge. Thread Tech had been providing embroidery services, which they did in-house with two Brother single-heads and one Brother 6-head embroidery machine, and they outsourced any screen printing orders. Adding the GT-541 has changed Lisa's business tremendously.

"The GT-541 is becoming my favorite piece of equipment in my garment decorating business. The advantages of the GT-541 over screen printing are no screen charges and no minimums. My customers are thrilled. For those that need only a few shirts; they don't have to settle for a one color design. They get exactly what they want at a price they can afford and it's making a huge difference. Samples are a snap.

Customer feedback tells me they love the way they wash and wear and they like that there is no heavy, stiff plastic feel as they were used to with screen printing. Business is increasing as word gets out about the increased benefits I can offer my clientele! I'm even subcontracting for other garment decorators."

Lisa pretty much runs the business single-handedly, but her son, Jake, helps out on Tuesdays. She offers this advice to anyone thinking of starting a garment decorating business, "Make sure you don't underestimate the huge time commitment and dedication this business demands. Be prepared to be the production manager, the marketing director, book keeper, and sales manager. Know your competition and differentiate yourself from them. For me, the competitive advantage is the GT-541!"
